FAQ’s

Will cleaning shrink my carpet?
A. No.  Jute is a natural fibre sometimes used in the construction of carpet backings.  It can shrink when it gets excessively wet which can only happen by using ineffective cleaning equipment, poor cleaning technique or a flood.  The Ultraclean system ensures that the carpet backing is never wet and thus will never shrink.

I've heard that once you clean a carpet it gets dirty quicker. Is that true?
A. Not with the Ultraclean system. Residue that gets left behind in the carpet from inferior cleaning solutions or processes is what causes rapid re-soiling (getting dirty quicker).  We only use the best professional cleaning solutions which have been approved not to leave residues behind after cleaning.  One of the stages in the Ultraclean process is a pH-balancing rinse removing all cleaning solution used leaving your carpet soft and clean.

How long will it take my carpet to dry?
A. Factors like carpet construction, type of fibre, soiling conditions and the weather outside all affect the drying time. For example a carpet could dry quicker on a cool windy day in winter than a hot humid day in summer because of humidity.
The Ultraclean system is 7 times more powerful than the electric systems other cleaning companies use so we guarantee your carpets will dry much faster. You carpet will NEVER be soaking wet or take days to dry. On average most carpets are dry in about 3 hours but you can walk on it right after cleaning, if necessary as it’s only very slightly damp. On the day of cleaning we will advise you of drying times and give you tips on how to dry it faster.

I've heard water can ruin carpets. Is that true?
A.  No. What harms a carpet is poor quality DIY electric machinery coupled with poor cleaning technique that doesn’t remove enough of the water to allow the carpet to go through the drying process properly.  The Ultraclean system is the most powerful and professional carpet cleaning system available.  Using that and our knowledge and experience gained over many years, ensures cleaning will only ever benefit your carpet.  Don’t forget a carpet is made from either wool or man-made fibres the same as our clothes which we wash in the washing machine week from week.

Does Carpet Protector really work?
A.  Absolutely. Carpet protector is an outstanding product that helps to keep your carpet clean and extends it natural life, especially wool carpets. In fact, most new carpet has protector on it – applied by the carpet manufacturer. However, protector wears off because of foot traffic so needs to be re-applied. Ask us for advice before cleaning to see if your carpet will benefit from protector.

Why is vacuuming important?
A.  The most important thing you can do to keep your carpet looking great is to vacuum it thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high-traffic areas. Vacuuming helps remove embedded dirt particles, which dull the carpet’s appearance and damage the carpet fibres. Also, use walk-off mats at entrances to minimize dirt particles being tracked onto the carpet and to reduce soil accumulation. We recommend using a vacuum cleaner with a rotating brush or beater/brush combination that agitates the carpet pile to loosen embedded soil.  Some loop pile carpets can become fuzzy when cleaned with a rotating brush-style vacuum cleaner.  For those carpets, we recommend a good quality suction-only machine.

Why is professional cleaning important?
A.  Regular vacuuming and spot removal help to keep your carpets looking good on a day to day basis but there comes a time when your carpets will need a professional deep clean. Just as the clothes we wear need regular washing to keep them fresh and hygienic, carpets also require periodic cleaning.  Grit, stains and general everyday dirt accumulate deep in the carpet pile where no vacuum cleaner can reach. These are the major causes of wear and tear in a carpet and will also enable dust mites and bacteria etc. to develop unchecked. Cleaning costs are minimal when you consider the premature replacement cost of carpets and furnishings, so regular cleaning makes economic sense too.

How often should my carpet be cleaned?
A.  This will depend very much on the type of carpet and your living conditions.  Light coloured carpets will show more soiling than a dark coloured carpet.  Kids and pets will ‘create’ more stains than adults.  Wool carpets hide soiling better than synthetic carpets.  Carpets in a hallway and lounge are high traffic areas compared to a bedroom so would require more frequent cleaning. Generally for the average household having your carpets cleaned on a yearly basis will keep them looking clean, fresh and healthy but also help to extend their life span.

I've heard it's best to put off having your carpet cleaned as long as possible, is this true?
A.  No. The major carpet manufacturers recommend professional cleaning at least once per year. The build up of soil in your carpet from spills and foot traffic creates abrasion that breaks down your carpets’ fibres. The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning.

How much does it cost?
A. The cost to clean a carpet will depend upon size, type of carpet and condition.  We will provide a full written quotation before work commences. There are no hidden charges. We offer you a quality service and value for money. However you should be aware NEVER select a cleaning firm based on price alone. A low priced company is likely to leave you dissatisfied with the cleaning results and as we have seen many times could actually damage the item, costing you more in the long run. You will probably be able to get a cheaper quote than what Ultraclean charges but you get what you pay for. It’s impossible for a company to provide a quality service, invest in the best equipment to achieve great results, be fully insured and take the time to do a professional job with attention to detail if they charge unbelievably cheap prices. You can buy a meal in a fast food chain for £3 or go to a nice restaurant and spend £30 but there’s a world of different in quality and service!
